My name is Tran Ngoc Linh, student of Faculty of Arts, Sophia University. At first, I decided to go to Japan for university because I have long taken an interest in Japan and its culture. However, coming from Vietnam, managing a Tokyo-standard of living expenses have always been not so easy for me. With both of my parents reaching their retirement age, the tuition for Sophia University was becoming a difficulty as well. Thus, upon receiving Sophia University Benefactors’ (Sumitomo Corporation) Scholarship, I am very happy and grateful to be chosen. This has given me the opportunity to continue pursuing my interest in education. I have discovered my interest during my time studying in Social Sciences courses in FLA. In particular, my researches have been around the topic of cultures, politics, inequality and discrimination. I hope to improve my skills in research, interview, and writing through courses offered in FLA. For my future, I wish to join Non-Governmental Organizations that focus on raising the quality of life and reducing inequality in under-developed and developing nations. I also desires to be able to study and understand more of the Japanese language and culture. Moreover, there are many Japanese companies in my country, Vietnam. Eventually, I would love to be able to work for connection between my country and Japan.
