奨学金の新設と拡充 成果報告

受給者レポート:上智大学外国人留学生生活支援奨学金(後援会特別枠)

文学研究科 文化交渉学専攻

I have always wanted to study in Japan. I have always felt close to Japanese culture through my family, so I applied for Sophia University to study Japanese culture and language. Although I have some family in Tokyo, I experienced culture shock and economical problems as I arrived last year, and I had to loan some money from my grandmother to pay off the scholar tuition. This loan made me worry about daily expenses and I constantly felt the urge to give the loan back to my family. This scholarship took that weight off of me. Not because I want this money to spend it on me, but because I feel I will be able to give the loan back when I finish my grade studies.

My dream is to become a translator. My mother and grandparents taught me Japanese since I was little, but as I study Japanese language and literature at University, I notice how much I need to learn about this language. I understand it could take time to get into this job, so I didn’t want to finish this graduate course with any kind of debt. I am so thankful for this scholarship because it will help me to reduce my loan and it will also help me with my daily expenses. I hope I will be able to give back part of this scholarship when I become a translator.
