I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude at being the beneficiary of the 2019 Frank and Jane Scolinos scholarship. I grew up in a bicultural home in Lahore, Pakistan with my Filipino mother and Pakistani father and I came to Japan to pursue my undergraduate studies with the aim of further enriching my experiences. Going into my sophomore year at Sophia University as the recipient of the scholarship has removed the burden of financial hardship, enabling me to focus on the opportunities for academic and personal growth that mark my vistas at Sophia. I extend my sincerest thanks to the University and its benefactors for granting me the opportunity to thrive.

Driven by intellectual curiosity and the motivation to live a life dedicated to improving that of others, my aspirations include working as an international civil servant or as a researcher/ policy adviser for think tanks and government bodies. In line with these aims, I am pursuing the study of Japanese and French and plan on majoring in political science. Additionally, I hope to gain research experience under the tutelage of professors in relevant fields.

Beyond academics, to expand my knowledge of the world I have continued parliamentary debating by joining the 'Sophia Debating Society'. My achievements include winning the novice championship and the 'Best Speaker of the Finals' award at Japan Debating Union's National British Parliamentary Tournament 2018. Together with my peers, I have also co-founded the club 'Horizon' at Sophia which is an incubator for projects aimed at addressing global issues.

I hope to continue learning and make positive contributions for the community.
